Today was a socialization day not to be outdone by conventions such as clothing. D agreed to help me on a poodle social outing. We took both poodles to the castro on a "man hunt". It has been decided that Winnie isn't meeting enough men so we decided to address that head on.
She handled the hub-bub very well. We saw a WIDE variety of people including a nude (except for shoes) man who is apparently running for mayor! Yikes! We saw men and women of a wide variety of back grounds including several people sitting on the street, dogs of various sizes wooden planks, metal grates, old school street cars, baby strollers, and buses.
Winnie was mostly confident for all of it which impressed me. She greeted about a dozen people thanks to D's puppy socialization skills! I tend to just stand around baffled that people aren't flocking to my dogs!
When we got home I gave W a quick bath (her 4th or 5th I think). Por think shivered and struggled to get out. = (
After we let her dry we brushed her out - always an adventure as she would like to eat the brush. Then we clippered her face and tail. We used the big Andis and a #10 blade. D was in charge of treat dispensing and together we managed to keep Winnie pretty cooperative - carefully treating any holding still and not reinforcing her jerk-aways.
She has no problems with her tail getting clipped at all - not sure she even noticed. The face is more challenging and the her muzzle is hard! (getting better though - thanks D!!!!!!!)
Poor little princess was tired and eventually fell asleep on her grooming chair. We had to take lots of breaks to let the blade cool off. I really, really have to remember to get that cooling spray!
Winnie was sooooo tired and slept for a couple hours - I gave her some nutrical b/c she didn't get a full lunch. I gave her some kibble as we were leaving and she ate it up. When we got home about 90 minutes later she has peed on her pad and was ready to go-go-go!.
She is currently on the kitchen rug chewing on a pig's tail!
