Yesterday was a looooooooong day. It was my first day back after almost 2 weeks and my first day back to work since bringing Winnie home. I *could* take her to work with me BUT she has only had 1 DHPP shot and most everyone that I have polled (including a RVT) said no way should I bring her there yet. In some ways it would be easier to bring her and in other ways harder. The concern obviously is all of the unknown dogs that come through there and that I am exposed to. Yesterday I tested dogs so I changed when I came home at lunch to let the puppy out. It is a pain to be that careful - change shoes, change clothes, wash up and all but I don't know what I would do if she got really sick. We have had several distemper dogs at work this year!
I came home briefly at about 10 to grab Tim's wallet and take it to him at ACT. The pup was calm and relaxed when I came in but cried when I left. I took her out for a minute but she wouldn't go to the bathroom.
I came home again at about 1:30pm and she was calm and quiet when I entered but started fussing when I was changing. She and Dolce and I spent most of that 40 minutes in the yard.
I did give her some lunch and we played then I headed back to work.
Tim got home in the early afternoon which was a welcome surprise. he let her out and hung out with her a bit which is WONDERFUL!!
I don't know if coming home at lunch is really sufficient. I am exploring options. (no particular order)
- pay someone to come get her out and play with her
- take a 90m minute lunch - not particularly feasible especially Saturdays
- take her to work (and chance it - Kim did and Willie was fine)
- Send her to a daycare (requires 2 DHPPs). Even the puppy specific daycares require 2 shots. That is common practice around here.
We came home and she went to the bathroom in the yard. Then back upstairs for more play. She is getting to be quite the tugger!
She was so tired she took herself to bed in her crate (which was in her kitchen pen)
