Ok. Two dogs is a handful! Supervising 2 dogs in the yard is enough to make one crazy. Just for fun today we had our first "formal" training lesson. I put the pup in her pen and got ready to train Dolce. I pulled out his sock and spoon to work on take/hold of these two items. The sock is in lieu of a glove.
Well so Dolce started off strong and was really into the game. The pup looked on from her pen and whined. I worked Dolce for 30 seconds or so and then put him in the dining room behind a fence so that I could then work the pup. I covered the clicker in a sock to try and muffle the noise since I couldn't find my quieter clicker anywhere. We worked on click = treat. After about 15 clicks she would stand for a brief second and not try to mug me for the treats. Progress! Wow does this girlie like treats. I would love to get her GI "issues" sorted out so that I felt better about expanding her treat options. I put her back into her pen and brought Dolce into the kitchen again. I tried to pick up where we left off but he couldn't. I dunno why...stress? He wanted the treats but actually walked away from me at one point and sniffed around the kitchen for a moment. The pup was pitching a fit so perhaps that is what was bothering him. I decided not to force the issue with Dolce and put him back over the gate into the dining room.
When she quieted a worked her again. This time I left her in her kitchen pen and c/t for eye contact. We have a lot of work ahead of us.
Now everyone is napping again ....well the dogs are napping.
